Tailoring is the art of designing, cutting, fitting, and finishing clothes. Sewing is the primary duty of tailors. They sew garments with different methods such as by using a needle and thread or with sewing machines. Syllabus:
Tools & Equipment: Hand machine, foot machine, ordinary scissors, shears, marking chalk, thimble, hand needles, cruel needle, darning needle, hand needles.
Machinery: Balance wheel, disconnecting screw, stop motion screw, presser foot, presser foot lifter, needle plate, needle clamp screw, thread guide, presser bar screw, bobbin case, tension angle, shuttle, rubber ring.
Sewing Techniques: French curves, pencil & sharpener, tracing wheel,straight metre scale, paper scissors, fabric scissors, hip curve, triangle, scotch tape.
Methods of Finishing: Introduction, objective, marking, precautions while laying out, margins, principle of lay out, finishing.
Measuring: Introduction, objective, using the inch- tape for measuring, measuring correctly, precautions while taking measurements, use of scale, sequence of taking measurements.
Stitching: Introduction, objective, meaning of stitches, need for stitches, types use and method of marking stitches, decorative stitches.

Garment Technology is a discipline in which students learn about the different technical aspects of Tailoring designed for people who wish to learn various design patterns to make garments. the production of garments.

Introduction to Tailoring: Introduction, objectives, precautions while laying out, marking, principle of lay out, margins, finishing.
Simple Cutting and Stitching: Introduction, objectives, meaning of stitches, need for stitches, types use and methods of making stitches, decorative stitches.
Sewing Technology: Basic stitching tools, important terms for cutting & tailoring, basic rules of stitching, fabric terminology study, needle and thread, decorative items used for sewing, method and sequence for measurement taking.
Principles of Garment Making: Measurement from a garment, fabric requirement, datrs, pleats gathers, tucks, plackets facings, collors and sleeves, garment fitting.
Textile Science: Introduction, objective, meaning and need, drafting and paper pattern making, types of paper pattern.
Garment Construction: Introduction, objectives, types of facing, types of binding, elastic, design dart, notch collar- roll collar.

Objective of the course To provide trainees the skill and knowledge in embroidery techniques by hand, treadle sewing machine and automatic zigzag lock stitch machine so that they are able to seek self employment or employment in industry as skilled worker.
